''This video uses a mathematical formula based upon an image Escher did (The Print Gallery), known in these days as the "Droste Effect".
This is my first videoclip as a Director, and it was made entirely using a Digital Reflex Camera, Canon's Mark III which captures up to 115 continuous pictures, at 10 fps.
As this was really low budget video, it was made possible thanks to the help of lots and lots of friends.
This video was "inspired" by the amazing pictures of Sebastian Perez Duarte (I mean that as an euphemism). I just wanted to add movement to those kind of images.
All of the image process was made in my home computer, thank's to Pisco Bandito/Josh Sommers' tutorials, and Bill Hornes code. A friend of mine, Chema "The Mecatronic", helped me automate all of the process.
This is the result of almost 6 months of work.
Soon I'll post the making off, hope you enjoy it.
This is the video of a band called "No Somos Machos Pero Somos Muchos" (NSM PSM) and they're about to release their first album. This is their first single "Clap your brains off"
AEtuts.com has just posted a new great tutorial about making a cool opening cinematic. It has free scripts (plug-ins) for you to download and it will extend your skills in After effects. Tutorial part 1Tutorial Part 2
Requirements: Photoshop In this tutorial I am going to show you how to make a textured face. The result will be something like this:
So let's start:
Step 1 We start by downloading the face and the stone texture. And opening them in photoshop. Put the face-layer beneath the texture-layer (put the texture layermode to Multiply)
Step 2 Still on the texture-layer, select only the skin with your favourite selector (as if the texture layer wasnt there) (I used the pen tool (P)).
Step 2b (if pen tool is used) Right click somewhere and select Make Selection and press okay in the coming dialogue.
Step 3 Invert the selection (CTRL+I) and press Delete to delete the stone texture of the jacket.
Step 4 Now select the eyes and press delete, to clear the eyes of the stone texture.
Step 5 Take the face-layer. Take the burn tool and burn a nice dark edge around the eyes.
Step 6 Make a new layer and select the coloured part of the eyes, then pick an orange colour and fill it, then delete the black part of the eye (in the colour layer) and set the mode to ''Color''
Step 7 Take the face-layer. Select: Filter>Render>lighting effects Put the settings to soft omni and slide some of the sliders a bit.
Step 8 Experiment with multiple Adjustments and you will get a nice result, I added a faded edge around the image, and another tint layer. You can download the PSDfile here; PSDfile
Great news from VideoCopilot.net they have updated their SureTarget plug-in, new features. And in this project they have included all their Plug-Ins so far! So go on and see it on VideoCopilot.
Today I have seen a cool tutorial. It's about making a cool bright 3D text with some doodads around it. I know it sounds kinda boring but the result is amazing! So why not take a look?
Can't remember when I exactly found these amazing images. (I know it was before I started this blog) Anyway I have discovered them on Evoke (tm). Evoke has several authors which make incredible creative designs. It is quite inspiring to see their different styles.
''This was the first image which I saw and search further for.''
Now I finally have 3 great tools to make graphic designs, I have more inspiration (to find). So as I was searching for some good vector/cartoon character creating tutorials, I came to some good ones (inspirational too)
Step 1 The 3D text is made in illustrator (or any other program). So pick the type tool and type your text. Letter By Letter! Then Align all the letters, by clicking on the ’’align bottom’’ button Add the 3D effect by adding ‘’Extrude & Bevel’’ (Effect>3D>Extrude & Bevel) Just random rotate the cuboid to get a nice result.
Step 2 Now lets copy the text into Photoshop. Select all the letters and copy them (ctrl+c) Open up photoshop and pase them (ctrl+v) as a ’’Smart Object’’
Step 3 Lets get some cloud brushes (for free: here) And brush them in two new layers, one on top of the 3D text and the other one below. And scatter it around a bit. (ignore the blur, tiny mistake from me, it wont affect the result)
Step 4 Add the rainbow; make select a small strip in a new canvas and fill it with a rainbow gradient. From top to bottom. Then select the Polar to Coordinates filter (Filters>Distort>Polar-to-Coordinates)
Step 5 Copy the rainbow into your original canvas (your 3D text, clouds image) and place it beneath your 3D text layer (above the 2nd clouds layer) . Select the following part: (maybe add a bit of feather (6px) (Select>Modify>Feather) and press Delete on your keyboard. (Set the mode to screen)
Step 6 Now duplicate the layer and place it on top of all layers (Set the mode to Hard light)
Step 7 Let’s create the bubbles. Select a 19px feathered round brush and add a scatter effect. Than play around with the position of the spots.
Step 8 For the colouring we just add a simple rainbow gradient on top of all layers. And set the mode to colour
Playing around with the effects will give the best result.
Todays Inspiration is about Logo Designing. As I am more and more into designing typography I thought logos would be interesting. So I have googled around and found these amazing Logo Design websites.
As I was designing a logo for my blog, I came out with a different appearance than I wanted. So I went on and came out with these two images. Tutorial which would be appropriate for this experiment: tutorial about 3D text
If you want a tutorial about the images, please leave a comment behind and I will see what I can do for you!
I have found an interesting post from PSDtuts. They are all about improving your designing skills (e.g. tips for Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, or other (free) software) Today I will show you a few of these links, to get you started.
After a few months making designs with photoshop I decided to focus mainly on advanced typography (Typography in motion, effects with typography, logo's etc.). So at the moment I am searching for some video's which show cool designs of typography in motion and images of advanced typography.
Today I have noticed a very cool and relatively simple tutorial on AEtuts.com. It is about making the cool typographic effectt: Kinetic Typography also called Text in Motion. At the moment I am making something like that step by step. It takes a long time to get every piece aligned very well and every word has his own layer. But when I'm done I will show you the result.
This is not a tutorial, but just something I found out in Photoshop CS4, which I wanted to share. So it is not as accurate explained as a tutorial.
As I was making a Gift for my friend on gimper.net (Shadow). 1. So I started with the background, Just black and putting red spots (scattered all around).
2. Then just played around with blur, finally I took shape blur and took the following shape:
3. Then just took a decent font and added some layer effects (just play around) I used the following settings:
4. Then I created those 1px lines, just take a round brush, 1px and use the following settings to create the same:
Then make one little dot where you want to start (the middle) and hold shift and make a little dot at the same height but then at the border.
